There is just too much to say about this book， and I feel that the more I type it out， the more I realize that it is an adventure you have to experience for yourself， that reviews wont capture the essence of。 Jay's writing style is perfect for this type of story。 The grit and helplessness of the larger story at play， the intrigue and curiosities that are plainly foreshadowed in the beginning， the tragedy and vulnerabilities that seep into the least likely of chapters。 You never feel like you're There is just too much to say about this book， and I feel that the more I type it out， the more I realize that it is an adventure you have to experience for yourself， that reviews wont capture the essence of。 Jay's writing style is perfect for this type of story。 The grit and helplessness of the larger story at play， the intrigue and curiosities that are plainly foreshadowed in the beginning， the tragedy and vulnerabilities that seep into the least likely of chapters。 You never feel like you're in control of this book。 It is a long， harsh， hopeless journey， and I loved every moment of it。 Jay utilizes a writing technique we've seen many times， a narrator speaking after the events occur， retelling the story to a third party while he awaits his fate。 With this technique， its easy to fall into the trap of assuming that there can be no drama or suspense regarding the narrator， since he is obviously still alive at the end of the book where he is telling the story。 But you couldn't be further from the truth of it。 The narrator lives， though how much of a "life" that is， is entirely up for debate。 The drama and suspense comes from how he got to where is he is， where is friends and companions are， and how he intends， if at all， to escape from his seemingly hopeless fate。 I keep writing and erasing paragraphs of events in the story that I feel define its beautifully crafted world， only to realize that its only one of many events that leave this story bouncing off the walls of my thought-cage throughout the day。 So， instead of writing out the book page for page， Im just going to leave it at this。 If you like Jay Kristoff's writing style， this book will feel like you're mainlining it into your veins。 The lore is expansive， and the characters are just beautiful。 I can't recommend it enough。 。。。more

First off， this novel has fantastic world building。 JK is truly a master of his craft。 The main character finds his family only to lose it， refusing to believe God is a merciful creator。 While absolutely ripping the vampires a new one throughout the tale， he’s able to find something to believe in and fight for。 I can’t wait for the next book to continue the badassery that is Gabriel de León。

j’avoue que j’étais assez craintif de peur de l’ombre que pourrait influencer Nevernight sur ma lecture。 Cela étant sans compter sur le talent indéniable de l’auteur qui réussit haut la main le défi vampirique n’est pas ce que je préfère， Jay Kristoff s’approprie les codes de cette légende pour en réaliser quelque chose de neuf， mature et des plus pertinent à découvrir。 Bien que ces créatures restent membrées de dents aiguisés， avides de sang et sensibles à l’argent， leurs différents pouvoirs et autres sont surnaturels sont bien plus accrus et d’une violence inouïe cette fois-ci。 Aussi séduisante que dangereuse et aussi violente qu’horrifique， j’ai tout simplement adoré la figure du vampire dévoilée par ce dernier。 Jay Kristoff réalise un travail incroyable quant à ce mythe et dévoile un panthéon parfaitement orchestré， à la hiérarchie rondement menée。 J’ai eu l’honneur de découvrir cette parfaite et habile construction et cette fine maîtrise grâce à la langue bien pendue et sarcastique – comme je l’aime – de Gabriel de León， cette moitié de vampire que j’ai rencontré en fâcheuse position。 En effet， l’intrigue prend place dans la cellule dans laquelle notre antihéros， pas si antihéros que cela mais nous y reviendront， est maintenu prisonnier。 Sa sombre geôlière désire connaître l’histoire de cet atypique individu aux allures de héros de guerres invincible et indestructible。 Celui-ci， bien que réfractaire à la collaboration finira par répondre finalement à cette demande en échange d’une puissante drogue auquel ce dernier semble dépendant。 Débute alors une riche et vive immersion au sein d’un univers des plus froid et austère qu’il m’ait été donné à lire。 Pendu à ses lèvres， je me suis laissé guider par son franc parler， son ton bestial ainsi que ses manières rustres et malotrues。Tout débute alors et jusqu’à présent de manière somme toute classique mais cela était sans conter sur le talent et le génie de Jay Kristoff。 Alors que je découvrais avec vif intérêt la jeunesse et l’adoubement de Gabriel auprès de sa nouvelle légion， l’Ordre d’Argent， notre moitié suceur de sang têtu et n’en faisant qu’à sa tête， décide de livrer à son auditeur le récit de son aventure liée à la quête du Saint-Graal。 Oubliez à présent le traditionnel schéma du héros en devenir et laissez place à une construction narrative décousue mais parfaitement alléchante et captivante。 Sans savoir où souhaitait me mener Gabriel， je l’ai laissé disposer les pièces de son puzzle comme bon le lui semblait pour me retrouver face à une toile d’une complexité à toute épreuve。 En ce sens et bien que déjà émerveillé par la prose de l’auteure， Jay Kristoff est parvenu à me surprendre parfaitement。 Nul doute que son style s’est une fois de plus bonifié avec le temps et cela se ressent amplement dans la maîtrise de L’Empire du Vampire。 Ce dernier sait comment embarquer ses lecteurs avec lui。 C’est pourquoi， et malgré sa taille impressionnante， ce premier tome se dévore avec avidité et efficacité。 Les six livres que comporte ce-dernier se dévoilent tout aussi intéressants et importants et permettent l’avancée des différentes intrigues dévoilées et drastiquement ficelées。Mieux encore， l’auteur reprend quelques éléments déjà présent dans sa précédente série tout en les remaniant afin de les imbriquer à sa nouvelle œuvre。 Quel plaisir de retrouver ainsi le puissant loin que détient Mia et ses familiers， remplacé cette fois-ci par la curieuse épée brisée et parlante de Gabriel。 Il fallait oser reprendre cet élément dont j’ai trouvé le parallèle séduisant。 Néanmoins et bien que connaissant maintenant l’intrépidité et l’habilité du style de Jay Kristoff， ce ne m’a pas empêché de m’être à nouveau fait avoir par sa brutalité et certaines révélations m’ont autant fait rager que précédemment。 Jusqu’à sentir monter mes larmes aux yeux à certains moments devant autant d’injustice et sévices。 Ce n’est pas encore cette fois-ci que l’auteur épargnera ses protagonistes et encore bien moins ses lecteurs même si je dois bien admettre avoir trouvé cela jouissif。 A croire que l’auteur a les lecteurs qu’il mérite。 Et je ne parle même pas de la fin qui nous laisse sur d’importantes et inattendues révélations face auxquelles， je me dois encore de maudire et détester Jay Kristoff。 Que sera longue l’attente avant de retrouver Gabriel de Léon。En effet et comme je vous le disais， le portrait de ce personnage aux allures d’antihéros se dessine remarquable， évolutif et surtout saisissant。 Bien qu’assez abrupte， cette première échauffourée m’a de suite interpelé grâce à la franchise et au sarcasme de ce personnage。 Ce dernier se dévoile aussi courageux que vaillant mais aussi intrépide qu’imprudent et semble cacher derrière ses cinglantes réparties ainsi que son impressionnante violence une grande part d’humanité。 J’ai de suite compris que je faisais face à un personnage complexe， construit en profondeur et je ne me suis absolument pas trompé。 J’ai été saisi par le captivant contraste que possède Gabriel de Léon et minutieusement mis en valeur par Jay Kristoff。 En dévoiler davantage reviendrait à vous dévoiler certaines vérités le concernant que votre cœur n’est pas prêt à attendre – le mien ne l’était pas， je vous rassure et ne s’en est toujours pas remis d’ailleurs – mais sachez que l’évolution de ce protagoniste tend à le faire devenir un véritable héros avec un grand H。 Derrière sa noirceur et sa carapace se cache un être que j’ai adoré apprendre à connaître et dont la découverte m’a lié intimement。 Ce vieil ours mal léché n’est d’ailleurs pas le seul personnage à détenir d’importants secrets et j’ai apprécié le traitement des différents membres de cette troupe atypique mais charmante et mettant à l’honneur une large diversité ethnique et sociologique。 Il faut dire qu’en traitant du mythe vampirique， l’ambiance de L’Empire du Vampire est assez particulière et mystérieuse。 Celle-ci oscille entre noirceur et lumière， entre démoniaque et piété。 Ce contraste permanent offre un résultat détonant mais séduisant à souhait et je me suis autant imprégné de la violence de l’univers que j’ai fait preuve de rédemption。 Ainsi， je n’ai pas été surpris de croiser le chemin de différents abbés， d’une sœur particulièrement séduisante et bien d’autres viles ou angéliques créatures telle une sorcière。C’est pourquoi et comme vous l’aurez compris， la composition de ce premier chapitre m’a donc plus que convaincu et largement conquis。 Bien que décousue et finalement finement ficelée， la construction et l’intrigue de ce dernier m’ont plus que captivé et passionné ！ Jay Kristoff démontre tout son talent d’orateur et donne la voix à une personnage complexe et profond que j’ai adoré suivre dans cette sombre et pieuse épopée。 L’Empire du Vampire détient un séduisant contraste constant et détonant que je ne peux que vous obliger à découvrir。De plus， je ne pourrais finir cette chronique sans revenir sur le merveilleux et impressionnant travail d’édition réalisé。 En effet， Bon Orthwick est aux commandes des illustrations qui accompagne ce premier volet et je remercie l’artiste pour ces nombreuses et délicieuses esquisses permettant un sentiment d’immersion encore plus vif et exacerbé。 J’ai adoré m’arrêter sur chacune des œuvres dévoilées afin de contempler toute la justesse des sentiments écrits par Jay Kristoff。 Tout comme je remercie une nouvelle fois la maison d’édition De Saxus pour tout le soin et la finesse apportés à chacune de leurs parutions et celle-ci en particulier qui se One of te best fantasy books I have ever read。 The grimdark gothic setting is a perfect pallete for this masterpiece。 I listened to this as an audiobook， and the narator is a major talent。 Cant wait for te next volume。

While a book about vampires it reads a lot more like a traditional fantasy epic。 The characters are memorable， the setting interesting。 My one critique would be that the action sequences were a bit confusing to me。 Thoroughly enjoyed it though 。

Every time I get my greedy hands on a new Jay Kristoff book， it's better than the one before it。 This one was no exception。 It took all my highest hopes and expectations， both which were already pretty damn high， and exceeded them by so much I was left scrabbling through Jay's IG hoping for an update on book 2。 EotV gives readers what they've come to expect from Kristoff: a very morally grey， somewhat unlikeable， almost villianous hero。 Through in some tragic backstory， a beautiful novice， and l Every time I get my greedy hands on a new Jay Kristoff book， it's better than the one before it。 This one was no exception。 It took all my highest hopes and expectations， both which were already pretty damn high， and exceeded them by so much I was left scrabbling through Jay's IG hoping for an update on book 2。 EotV gives readers what they've come to expect from Kristoff: a very morally grey， somewhat unlikeable， almost villianous hero。 Through in some tragic backstory， a beautiful novice， and lots and LOTS of epic battles， and that's the bare bones of Empire。 I was prepared for all that。 What I wasn't prepared for was how deep this book delved into matters of faith， religion， and redemption。 The vampire hunters， here called Silversaints， seem to be the equivalent of knights serving the Church。 Their religion is very obviously based on Catholicism。 As a Cradle Catholic Girl myself， I'm always slightly cautious approaching fiction depicting my religion， or even an obvious spin-off of it。 I definitely won't speak for all Catholics when I say I thought Kristoff handled the faith very respectfully。 To me， it seemed that in this alternate vampire universe， God is indeed real， and faith in him infuses his servants with genuine powers。 Our hero doesn't seem to question that; his issue is anger and a lack of trust in a god he does， in fact， seem to believe is real。 This was incredibly interesting to read about， and definitely not something I see depicted very often。 There are plenty of heroic and noble characters who retain their faith， as there are just as many villianous characters with faith as well。 This entire faith and religious aspect of the book was something I was wholly unprepared for but absolutely loved。 Now。 Onto the rest of the book！ I can't say there was anything in this book I didn't absolutely love。 The setting was definitely less fleshed out than the setting of the Nevernight Chronicle， but I didn't mind that at all。 There is a very nice map with the book， but honestly I got so enveloped in the story I kind of stopped referencing it。 The atmosphere was beautifully grim and chilly， there was a delicious amount of blood （at times appropriately sexy）， and the illustrations were just gorgeous。 I don't think I could imagine a single way this novel could be improved on。 I binged the last 200 pages in a single night， it was that amazing。 When are we getting a book 2？？ 。。。more
